Clements Farm 1MW Justsens straw boiler

In January 2016 Cheviot Heat & Power Ltd won a contract to supply and install a 1MW Justsens straw boiler with full turnkey on a farm in Hertford.

This boiler will be providing heat for a brand new on floor drying system that can dry both grain and wood chip. In addition to the grain drying system the boiler will be supplying heat to a number of workshops and offices on the farm as well as a new farm house that is being built.

The straw feed system is fully automated and can be supplied to any length depending on space availability.

The straw bales travel along the conveyor and slowly the bales is fed automatically into a chaff cutter. The chaff cutter rotates slowly and sheds the straw into 2 – 3” lengths. This is then transported by auger to the boiler ensuring a fully automated feed system.

The boiler has a stainless steel refractory and step grate system that is fully water cooled. Straw burning is renowned for causing serious clinker build up within the combustion chamber however with the unique design by Justsens boilers with water cooling this is no longer an issue.

The boiler is fully automated and has remote monitoring as standard; boilers can be supplied with power outputs from 500KW – 20MW in low temperature, medium temperature hot water and steam boilers. The boilers can also be supplied with a ram feed and fuel transport conveyors that are ideally suited for waste wood applications.

The great advantage of using a Justsens straw boiler is that it is possible for the boiler to also have a wood fuel feed transport system with a walking floor option thus making it possible to have a dual fuel boiler running on either straw or wood chip whichever is the cheapest fuel that is available for you.

From the client ...

We approached Cheviot Heat and Power because of a recommendation from a business we already deal with. The boiler installation at our farm has been a big project with quite a bit of design involved. Cheviot heat and power assisted in the layout of the plant room and pipework to ensure it was tailor made to our needs and to allow for future additions.

The boiler is now up and running and has been installed professionally and we were provided with a comprehensive handover. Working with Cheviot Heat and Power Ltd has been easy and straightforward. Paul is always at the end of the phone to answer any questions and has left us with a neatly finished plant room. He also has good relationships within the industry for other aspects of the installation. He gets on with the job with minimal hassle. I would highly recommend the business to anyone looking for a company to help with the installation of their boiler from the early stages of design through to commissioning.
